The New Valley Hospital
Paramus, NJ
HDR was selected to design Valley Health’s new replacement patient hospital in Paramus, New Jersey. Valley Health is a 50-year-old community hospital system with academic affiliations and with a community mission to “heal, comfort, and care for the people of our community by providing advanced and compassionate health care of superior quality and value supported by education and clinical research.”
The New Valley Hospital facility will include 352 conversion-ready all private same-handed inpatient rooms including a dedicated Women’s pavilion, a highly advanced integrated interventional platform and diagnostic imaging, and a new emergency department. This New Valley Hospital is entirely focused on inpatient care but is only one of the major elements on the new Valley Medical Campus.
“Fiscal Responsibility—An On Budget Solution. HDR used elements of Vermeulens' Target Value Design (TVD) process to continuously and consistently manage the project’s construction budget and maintain focus on value and quality throughout the design process. TVD organizes the construction budget into defined “buckets” that are managed by builder, architects, engineers, and designers as they guide the owner through the myriad of design decisions. This focus allowed the team to continue to shrink the construction budget - by over fifteen percent – without negatively impacting the project program or quality.”
